英语语境:

Since the beginning of the reform and opening-up, the study of Chinese history has witnessed a robust growth in various new areas. One such development is the study of the history of Christianity in China. The advance in this field bears the following three characteristics: First, researchers have deftly adopted and switched among various frameworks, such as Culture Imperialism, Culture Encounter, Modernity, and Globalization, to contextualize their historical subjects, and their scholarship presents a diverse and multi-level interpretation and intellectual power. Second, there has been a constant change in research focus, from Christianity and the modernity of the Chinese society, to Christianity and the China-West relationship, to the unique identity of Chinese Christianity. Such shifts reflect the trend of moving, from outside the Chinese Christian movement, inward to the movement itself. Finally, a distinctive feature of this area is its openness and growth. There is an immense space for various topics, such as regional history, gender history, history of religion and religious sects, as well as biographical research of religious individuals. Meanwhile, with the increasing accessibility to digital databases and oversea archival materials, cross-cultural approaches and the cross-cultural view will surely lead to new achievements in this field.
