“窑”字渊源于古代烧羊制佳肴的“穴”。中国是世界上使用窑炉生产硅酸盐制品最早的国家。约在公元前3000年已有烧制陶器的穴窑。古老的窑是由燃烧室、窑室、火道以及调节炉温用的大小不一的火眼所组成，烧成温度可达1200℃左右。约公元前17世纪初～前11世纪的商代，出现了烧成温度更高的半陶半瓷窑。

The word “窑”(kiln) comes from the word “穴”(cave) which is used for cooking mutton in the ancient time of China. China is the earliest country that used kiln to make metasilicate products, and about 3, 000 years ago China had made cave kiln that could produce potteries. The ancient kiln was composed of combustor, kiln chamber, fire path and different sizes of burners that can adjust the temperature which can reach more than 1, 200 ℃. The semi-porcelain kiln which had higher temperature appeared in the Shang Dynasty from the 17th century B.C.to the 11th century B.C.
