The meat of shellfishes can meet people's basic survival needs and the shells have extra multifunction in people's daily life. Before the early period of the Neolithic Age, shells were mostly made into the ornaments to decorate different body parts, while some were also made into different types of tools for a variety of purposes like collecting and hunting activities. However, with the social development and improvement of people's production capacity, the shell-made tools were less used by the time of Shang and Zhou dynasties, but the functions of shells were obviously increasing, especially in the non-productive field.
