瓷笔架在明清之际最为普遍，样式也更为丰富，质精形美。尤其是在明代中晚期，瓷质笔架迅速发展，形状各异，除实用之外，还可供把玩。清代瓷笔架则以乾隆朝制作最精。晚清之际，文房诸品均突破原有的材质之限制，迈向一器多材、造型多变的辉煌时代。这个时期的瓷笔架缺少早中期时的神韵，其山形笔架的造型呆滞，山峰较高而瘦，美感不足。

Porcelain brush rests were most commonly used in Ming and Qing Dynasties with various beautiful designs that are of high quality. With the rapid development of porcelain brush rests, the brush rests began to come in all shapes and sizes for appreciation except for their utility during the middle and late Ming Period. In Qing Dynasty, the most well-crafted porcelain brush rests appeared in Qianlong period. In the late Qing Dynasty, all the calligraphy materials broke through the limitations of materials and marched toward the golden age of multipurpose and innovative craftworks. However, porcelain brush rests of this period lacked some kind of romantic charm compared with products in the early and middle Qing Dynasty. Specifically, their stereotyped mountain-like-shape seemed to be boring, and the peak of the brush rest was a little higher and thinner, which was short of some kind of beauty.
