我国玻璃生产延续至清代，已有长达三千年之久的历史。随着生产技术逐渐提高，清朝时期创造了具有鲜明民族风格和时代特点的玻璃工艺。清代玻璃生产经历顺、康、雍三朝进入暂短的极盛期，主要是指乾隆五年到二十四年的二十年内清宫玻璃厂所出现的异乎寻常的生产规模。乾隆初年玻璃厂仍设于圆明园六所，烧造小件器皿，也曾烧成缠丝玻璃鼻烟壶等。乾隆十八年又烧得缠丝玻璃花浇三件、缠丝玻璃笔筒一件。

Glass production in China had had a history of over 3000 years by the time of Qing dynasty. With the advancement of production techniques, a glass craft of distinctive national style and individual characteristics was gradually formed during Qing period. After the reigns of Shunzhi, Kangxi and Qianlong, the glass manufacture industry stepped into a temporary flourishing period, which primarily referred to the extraordinary production capacity of the imperial glass factory between the 5th year of Qianlong and the 24th year of Qianlong. During early years of Qianlong, the imperial glass factory was still located in the six yards of the Old Summer Palace, where the small glass wares, for example, the wired glass snuff bottle, were made. In the 18th year of Qianlong, three wired glass watering vessels and one wired glass brush pot were produced by the imperial glass factory.
