早在红山文化、良渚文化时期就已出现了玉蝉，而蝉纹最早出现在青铜器上是在商代。考古学者通过对河南商周青铜器上的蝉纹进行归纳、梳理，将它们分为无足蝉纹、两足蝉纹、四足蝉纹和变形蝉纹四种类别。
英语语境:
Jade cicada first appeared as early as during Hongshan culture and Liangzhu culture periods. But cicada pattern carved on the bronzes first appeared in Shang dynasty. Archeologists has classified the cicada patterns on the bronzes of Shang and Zhou dynasties in Henan into four types, that is, no-foot cicada pattern, two-feet cicada pattern, four-feet cicada pattern and anamorphic cicada pattern.
