A Neolithic site with an area of 24, 000 square meters is situated 1, 500 meters to the east of Xinkailiu. Between September and October 1972, the archeologists excavated 280 square meters in the northwestern part of the site. The cultural deposits can be divided into upper and lower layers. Among the 32 unearthed tombs, 31 tombs from the upper layer and one tomb (No.18) from the lower layer. Radiocarbon tests conducted on human bones unearthed from Tomb No.5 gave the tombs a date of 6080士130 B.P. In the lower layer of the site grey pottery mixed with sand and brown pottery were found, which were decorated with incised designs such as rhomboid, triangle and vertical parallel lines and with punched-dot patterns.
