The embossed decoration is a curiosity in the art mine of China and has enjoyed a high prestige in the world. The key point of the embossed decoration technique lies in how to use thumb force and wrist force. It shares several similarities with painting since both of them follow the same aesthetics principles. Meanwhile, there are also some differences between them. For instance, they exploit different materials: writing brush, ink stick and paper are used in painting, while finger and color billet are employed in the embossed decoration.

Jun ware is one of the earliest types of ceramics in Yixing and is called one of "five golden flowers” in Yixing Ceramic Arts. The other "four golden flowers” are fine pottery, purple sands, celadon and colored pottery. Yixing Jun ware is famous for its unsophisticated and beautiful style and its main decoration skills are pile and stick which are rich of representativeness and art characteristic in the decoration skills of folk crafts. The paste-on-paste works of Jun ware are practical and have the value of display. Now in Yixing, the Pottery Capital, purple sands stand out alone.
