根据史料记载，云纹最早出现在商代，当时以主纹的形式出现在奴隶主的服装上，成为身份地位的标志之一。随着时间的推移，云纹的形式及运用范围也不断地发展，秦汉时期出土文物中还出现不少单独云纹的丝绸织物；而隋唐时期纺织品的纹样题材中的朵云纹则开始以装饰纹样的作用穿插于飞禽走兽及植物纹之间，其造型也呈现出一种自由及饱满的艺术风格。

According to historical records, the first cloud pattern appeared in Shang dynasty and became the main decorative design on slave owners'clothing as a sign of high status. As time went on, both the form design and application scope were constantly and gradually evolving. In Qin and Han dynasties, among many unearthed cultural relics there were some silk fabrics with single cloud pattern; however, in Sui and Tang dynasties, the embossed cloud design began to interweave patterns of birds and animals and plant patterns, functioning as decorative pattern in the pattern design of textiles. Specifically, its model assumed a free and vivid artistic feature.
