屈氏家族从屈瑕授封屈地为侯开始，世代享受“莫敖”的殊荣，春秋战国500年间一直是楚国的支柱。屈氏家族涌现了一大批人才精英，特别是产生了世界文化名人屈原。从《鄂君启节》有关铭文和汉寿县沧浪水畔楚墓群铜戈、铜印等文物的出土，沧港镇的遗存遗迹及相关文献的记载分析，屈原的故乡不可能是湖北的秭归，很可能是洞庭平原中心的汉寿县沧港古镇。
