The second season for excavation of the Chayanchong site in Jingmen reveals a cultural deposit consisting of three layers, which contains five earth pits, eleven pillar holes and one tomb. The tomb, a large rectangular earth pit with platform, yields potteries up to 64 pieces. The relics of the Neolithic Age excavated can be classified into tools of production, utensils for living and funerary objects. Tools of production can be divided into stone and pottery wares while utensils for living and funerary objects are all pottery. Most of the potteries are featured with black pottery and the main ornamentations are basket vein and pattern of diamond checks. The utensils have 17 different types including cooking vessels and pots.
