2004年是二里头遗址勘察发掘45周年。40余年来，除1965～1971年中断了数年外，二里头遗址的钻探发掘工作持续不断，在30多个年份中共进行了60余次（以春夏、秋冬各为一个发掘季度）发掘，累计发掘面积达4万余平方米，取得了一系列重要成果。例如，发现了大面积的夯土建筑基址群和宫城城垣，以及纵横交错的道路遗迹；发掘了大型宫殿建筑基址数座、大型青铜冶铸作坊。

英语语境:

The year of 2004 is the 45th anniversary of the beginning of field work on the Erlitou site. During the past 45 years, the drilling exploration and planned excavation of the site have been carried out continuously except for the period between 1965 and 1971. And in the past 30 years there're over 60 explorations (spring and summer, autumn and winter respectively belong to one season). The excavated area has reached more than 40, 000 sq meters in total, and a series of important achievements have been obtained. For instance, a large area of site of cob, city walls of imperial palace and remaining of crisscrossed roads were discovered; several sites of large-scale palaces and bronze workshops were also discovered.
