敦煌莫高窟第98号五代洞窟腰壁屏风画中，有一种形制奇特的航海帆船。此航海帆船之图像，以目视之，前部连为一体，甲板上有亭阁式建筑，自中部起似鱼尾分为两叉，且渐趋尖细。此“头尾似鱼”的航海帆船，正是中国古代的并舟之舫，其制类似近代双体船。其前部“连为一体”的视觉印象，盖因其上部建筑横跨两舟所致。

In the middle wall of the No. 98 cave of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang of the Five Dynasties, there's a strangely shaped boat sailing in the sea in the grotto screen painting. The fore part of the boat is an organic whole and there's a building on the deck which looked like pavilion. The boat seems to be split into two halves that look like a fishtail from the middle part while its end part turns sharper and slender gradually. This boat whose head and tail look like a fish is the ancient Chinese simulated boat with a structure that is close to modern catamaran. The buildings that cross the boats in the upper part may be responsible for the illusion that the forepart looks like a whole.
