传统的壁画和唐卡，都是在不同的材料上绘制的，绘制壁画和唐卡的墙面和画布必须经过专门技术处理。壁画的墙皮处理:首先用粗泥(掺有沙土的白灰泥)铺底，再抹一层细泥，半干时用圆石磨光再涂一层胶和白土，待干后作画。唐卡主要绘于布上，布一般是浅色画布，不能太厚太硬，画布又厚又硬颜料容易造成剥落和皱裂。最合适的画布是织工细密的纯白府绸或棉布，没有图案的白丝绸做画布也非常合适。

Traditional mural painting and Tangkha painting are painted on different materials. Walls and canvas for painting mural and Tangkha should be processed through specialized techniques. The processing of the surface of walls for mural first requires bedding with coarse slurry (white plaster with sandy soil), and then wipes a layer of fine silt. When the bedding is half-dry, we can polish it with roundstone and wipe another layer of glue and carclazyte and start to draw when it is completely dry. Tangkha painting is mainly drawn on light color canvas that cannot be too thick or too hard in case the pigment peels off and cracks. The optimum canvas for Tangkha painting is pure white poplin or cotton cloth with fine weaving. The white silk cloth with no pattern is quite suitable for Tangkha painting as well.
