2002年，在耶路撒冷附近出土了一具石灰岩骨棺。所谓“骨棺”，就是指盛殓遗骨的石匣。按照古代犹太人习俗，人死之后，先要将尸体洗净，涂上油和香料，用裹尸布包好，放入墓中。待尸体风干之后，亲属再捡出死者的遗骨，装入石匣，葬于家族墓地中。在此之前，这样的石匣在以色列已出土了几千件，但这具骨棺却非比寻常，其原因在于，骨棺上用古亚兰文刻有一行字：“雅各，约瑟之子耶稣之弟。”

In 2002, one limestone bone coffin was unearthed from the neighborhood of Jerusalem. The so-called “bone coffin” refers to the stone case that is used to store human remains. According to the old Jewish customs, when people died, the Jews washed the corpse clean and applied oil and spices on it, and packed the dead body into tomb with winding-sheet. After the corpse was dried, the relatives would remove the corpse from the tomb and put it into the stone case which was then buried in the family vault. Thousands of such kind of stone cases had been excavated before in Israel, but this bone coffin was rather extraordinary because there was one line of Aramaic inscription on the coffin which read “Jacob, son of Joseph and brother of Jesus”.
