磨沟墓地位于甘南地区的洮河流域，从地理位置上来看，此地西通新疆，东连关中，北接大漠，是中原地区与少数民族地区的交接地域，是农业文化与游牧文化的结合部。磨沟墓地古代居民中发现的先天性疾病主要是腰椎骶化、骶椎腰化以及脊柱裂等三种。其中脊柱裂是脊椎轴线上的先天畸形，表现为脊椎后弓的两侧未能融合连接而造成的缺损。

The Mogou graveyard is located in the Taohe River basin of Gannan region. From the geographical view, this area connects Xinjiang to the west, the central Shaanxi plain to the east, and the desert to the north. It is the joint of the Central Plains and the area where the minority groups live in, and that of the agricultural culture and nomadic culture. The major congenital diseases of ancient inhabitant in Mogou graveyard were lumbar sacralization, lumbarization of the sacrum and spina bifida, among which the spina bifida was the congenital malformation in the spinal axis, i.e., a defect where there was incomplete closing of the two sides of posterior of vertebrae.
