1996年秋天，江苏省句容市博物馆从该市青山采石场下三叠统下青龙组部采集到了一些鱼化石。初步的鉴定表明，几件鱼化石为裂齿鱼科和副半椎鱼科的属种，特别是副半椎鱼科的属种过去在中国尚未发现过。共鉴定出分属于两目两科的6属8种，其中有4新属6新种。其中短体苏氏鱼属于副半椎鱼科新种，鱼个体较小，短纺锤形。头相对较大。额外肩胛骨和后颞骨保存较完整，前者小，狭而高的三角形；后者颇大，低而宽的三角形。上颌骨前部低，后部逐渐增高并与前鳃盖骨牢固连接。下颌骨前部短而低，后部迅速扩大增高，有隅骨和上隅骨。

In the fall of 1996, a small collection of fish fossils was obtained by the Jurong Municipal Museum from the Lower Qinglong Formation of Lower Triassic at the Qingshan quarry of Jurong, Jiangsu Province. According to preliminary examination by the archeologists, at least eight species of six genera falling into two families, Perleididae and Parasemionotidae, are recognized in the present collection, of which 4 genera and 6 species are new, particularly those of the family Parasemionotidae being known for the first time in China. Suius brevisLiu sp.nov.belongs to the new species of Parasemionotidae. The fish is small or medium-sized, and fairly fusiform in shape, with a relatively large head. The extrascapular plate and posttemporale are relatively well-preserved: the former is small, shaped like narrow and high triangular; the latter is large, like low and broad triangular. The maxillary is low in the anterior part, heightened posteriorly and connected firmly with the preoperculum, while the mandible is low and short in the anterior part, increased rapidly in height and size in the posterior part with angulare and supraangulare.
