The establishment of Ming court imperial kiln had boosted the development of ceramics industry and made Jingdezhen become the manufacturing center of porcelain. Besides, that the excellent craftsmen across the country gathered together also laid a solid foundation for Jingdezhen's ceramics industry, which had continuously improved the processing level in Ming and Qing periods and enriched the varieties of the products. Compared with Yuan Dynasty, the varieties and styles of double-gourd vases in Ming and Qing Dynasties were more abundant, which, according to decoration techniques, can be classified into three types: underglaze colour, overglaze color, and single colour glaze.

Different artistic styles of gourd-shaped vases in Ming and Qing Dynasties were closely related to the social background and emperor’s taste.
