Most brick-chambered tombs with decorative pattern were found in the Southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula of Northeast China, most of which are located in towns. It was advanced tombs appeared in late Eastern Han, keeping the same pace with the central plains. These tomb chambers can be divided into single tombs, double tombs and multi-chambered tombs. The pottery buildings, figurines as sacrificial objects were the important signs in the brick-chambered tombs, and the tombs were replaced by rock tombs after Wei and Jin Dynasties. The tombs were supposed to come from Shandong, and were greatly influenced by Shandong and other southeast coastal areas of China. The textured bricks in the Southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula were different from those in the inland areas: themes of the former mainly focused on geometric designs and animal images besides the themes of coins, figures and scripts, which implied wealth, longevity and auspiciousness, etc.; themes of the inland areas laid more emphasis on production activities, which showed strong regional characters.

2010年12月,湖北谷城县博物馆抢救发掘了一座带斜坡墓道的券顶单室砖墓,甬道壁和墓室壁均用花纹砖、画像砖、文字砖装饰,排列规整,砖单侧面浅浮雕有不同类型的装饰图案,图案均朝向墓室。墓中出土少量瓷器。综合墓葬形制、出土器物及大量画像砖装饰墓壁的特点,推断其时代为六朝时期。此墓的发掘对于研究六朝时期的社会历史、文化风俗等具有十分重要的意义。


英语语境:

In December 2010, Gucheng County Museum of Hubei Province made rescue excavation to a brick single-chamber tomb with ramp passageway and vaulted roof. The walls of the corridor and chamber of this tomb were all built of bricks decorated with patterns, images and inscriptions, and all of the decorations were applied to only one side of the bricks, on which all the patterns had their orientation pointed to the tomb. A few porcelains were unearthed from this tomb. The structure of this tomb, the characteristics of the excavations and the feature of decorating tomb walls with pictorial bricks all showed that this tomb was built in the Six-Dynasties Period. The excavation of this tomb was very meaningful for the researches on the social history, culture and folklores of the Six-Dynasties Period.
