中国社会科学院、内蒙古考古研究所的考古专家2003年10月8日在兴隆洼文化遗址考古时，发现了4000年前古人类取暧用的火墙。考古人员用柴草从火墙一端的道口烧火时，另一端仍可通畅地冒出烟来。这个火墙是在房屋遗址内发现的，高30厘米，宽20厘米，长约2米，已被烧成了褐红色。考古专家说，这是迄今为止发现的东北地区保存最完好的新石器时代的取暖设施。

On the eighth, October, 2003, archaeologists from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology of Inner Mongolia discovered one fire wall which was used to keep warm by the ancient mankind over 4000 years ago at Xing Long Wa Cultural Site. When the archaeologists lit the firewood at one end of the fire wall, the other end still rolled up smoke in good condition. This fire wall was found at the house sites and had been burnt in maroon. It is about 30cm high, 20 cm wide and 200cm long. According to the archaeologists, it is so far the best preserved Neolithic heating facility that has ever been found in Northeast China.
