妙通塔位于涟水县城西门，始建于北宋仁宗天圣元年（1023年）。塔身为砖砌实体，高30余米，1948年毁于战争。1998年5月，因计划重建妙通塔，在原址勘探时发现地宫。地宫遗物主要出土于供台之上的石函内，有金棺银椁、玻璃瓶、瓷瓶、云母瓶、金钗等，还有1千余枚铜钱。在金棺内又发现银盒、佛牙、舍利子，石函和银椁上均刻有精美的佛教图案。

英语语境:

The Miaotong Pagoda at the west gate of the Lianshui County was built in the first year (1023 B.C.) of the Tiansheng's reign of Emperor Renzong in the Northern Song Dynasty. It was made of bricks with more than 30 meters tall and was destroyed during wars in 1948. In May of 1998, archaeologists investigated the site and discovered an underground palace during the reconstruction of the pagoda. The unearthed objects were mainly found in a stone casket on a stone desk including silver outer coffin with gold inner coffin, glass bottles, porcelain bottles, mica bottles and gold hairpins, etc., together with more than one thousand pieces of coins. Moreover, in the gold inner coffin, there were silver box, tooth relic of Buddha and sariras. And on the stone casket and the silver outer coffin were there many exquisite Buddhistic images.
