在中国古代货币的研究中，涉及宋代金牌、金铤时，常只略举一些文献记载。究其原因，主要是缺乏实物资料。新中国成立后，特别是近十余年来，金牌、金铤曾多次出土。根据对出土的54枚金牌和11枚金铤的考察，考古学家发现金牌、金铤的制作较为粗糙，基本上保留着当时手工加工的痕迹。其工艺程序为：将熔炼后的黄金溶液注入事先准备好的模具中，待冷却后取出，再按每枚重量的要求切割，最后用硬金属印模钤盖有关铭文。

In the study of ancient Chinese currency, scholars often just list briefly some of documentary records when referring to the gold medal and gold ingot of the Song Dynasty. The reason may be that their researches lack material evidence. After the foundation of the People's Republic of China, especially in recent 10 years, gold medals and gold ingots have been unearthed many times. Based on studies of the unearthed 54 gold medals and 11 gold ingots, it is found that the production techniques were relatively rough, and that the trace of the manual processing at that time was basically kept. The procedure was as follows: pouring melted gold solution into the prepared mould, getting it out after chilling, cutting according to the requirement of weight for each medal or ingot, and finally inscribing relevant official seal by plaquette.
