汉语语境:

牌坊作为古时里坊制度的产物，后来与旌表制度相结合，具有传统文化中的标识、纪念、装饰、旌表和空间分界等功能，蕴藏着深刻的历史文化内涵。作为历史遗迹，牌坊也是前人杰出的智慧、丰富的想象力、卓越创造力的历史标本。从全国来看，牌坊数量较大，但相关成果较少，大多集中于研究其建筑艺术等方面，很少涉及牌坊的铭文。巴蜀地区现存明清牌坊170余座，至今未进行过系统调查与研究。

英语语境:

Paifang was the production of the ancient community system, and later combined with commendation system and was endowed with the functions of symbol, memorial, decoration, public commendation and space division in the traditional culture, which reserved deep historical and cultural connotations. As a historical relic, Paifang was also a historic specimen showing the outstanding wisdom, rich imagination and prominent creativity of the ancient people. Nationally, there is a large number of Paifang, but there are few relevant researches which mainly focused on its artistic value of the building rather than on the inscriptions of Paifang. In the Ba and Shu areas (Sichuan and Chongqing), there exists more than 170 Paifangs of Ming and Qing Dynasties, but so far no systematic investigations or research has ever been conducted.
