Glazed-tile architecture of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) has been renovated following a vague guideline of “keeping the original appearance of the old building”, which means to keep the color and luster of glazed tiles the same as they were during the prosperous days of the Qing Dynasty. This is one of the important codes to be borne in mind when renovating the heritage glazed-tile architecture. When changing glazed tiles during a renovation project, no matter in the Qing Dynasty or the contemporary era, the project manager commissioned the glazed tile usually fired in a designated kiln factory with an older tile as the example. The new tiles'color and luster were merely examined by the commissioner with his naked eyes to make sure the consistency with the older tiles.
