敦化堂古戏台是徽州祠内戏台的典型代表，是戏台建筑与徽州宗祠建筑完美结合的建筑形式。整座祠堂建筑由仪门、祠前广场、前进门厅、庑廊、前天井、中进享堂、后天井、后进寝殿等组成。敦化堂古戏台与前进门厅结合在一起，除门厅本身置柱以外，另根据需要设短柱支撑台面。短柱柱础较简易，柱上覆木板，形成戏台台面，撤掉木板即为门厅通道，戏台就变成了门楼，重要宾客从门楼进入祠堂。

Dunhua Hall, an ancient opera stage, is a typical representative of stages inside ancestral temples in Huizhou as well as a perfect architectural combination of the opera stage and ancestral temple in Huizhou. The Hall is composed of instrument doors, the square in front of the ancestral temple, the vestibule forward the temple, the veranda gallery, the front courtyard, the admit memorial hall, the back courtyard, and sleeping halls, etc. The Dunhua Hall ancient opera stage and the vestibule forward the temple are built up together. Except for the pillars of the vestibule, several other short columns are added to support the stage. The construction of such kind of column is quite simple: paving the columns with boards, the stage is formed; removing the boards off the columns, one passageway to the vestibule comes into being, and the stage transforms into the doorway, where the VIP can enter the ancestral temple.
