As small daily appliances, the fetus of lacquer lian toilet box should be lighter, which mainly included wooden body, cloth-born-out body, and a small amount of compound fetus. Decorative techniques of lacquer lian toilet boxes in Warring States mainly primarily focused on color paintings, which can be further divided into two performance practices, realistic painting and exaggerated distortion. In addition, the ancients in Han Dynasty employed the techniques of cone painting and gold foil applique to decorate the lacquer lian toilet boxes.

The decorating patterns on Western Han lacquered wooden core plate unearthed in Mianyang in 1995 contained Laozi’s chart of supreme ultimate, 64 hexagrams in order of generation, River Chart, the solar calendar of ten months, the calendar combining Yin and Yang, 28 constellations, solar periods, and almost all those concerning Chinese ancient astronomy and calendar, and the numerology of Book of Changes. Together with the s-shaped charts (Laozi’s chart of supreme ultimate) unearthed in various provinces along Yangtze River and Huai River, the lacquered wooden core plate provides a proof for the following historic facts: the study of charts concerning I Ching rising during Song and Ming was actually related to the transmission of Taoist study of I Ching; Shao Yong’s chart of anterior-heaven, Liu Mu’s River Chart and Luo Script, Zhou Dunyi’s chart of supreme ultimate, and Yin-Yang Fish Chart of supreme ultimate originated from Taoism. The excavation and interpretation of the decorating patterns on Western Han lacquered wooden core plate are very important to studies on the history of I Ching and Chinese culture.
