女官制度是中国古代传统的宫廷制度。女官之设，既是为了服务宫廷的需要，以保障皇权的正常运转，也蕴含了帝王对拥有一个雍肃和睦、井然有序的后宫的设想。明朝在建国伊始就很重视女官的设置，经过洪武一朝的三次更定、完善，终成一代之定制。此后，女官制度又随皇权的更迭和时局的变化多有损益更张。

The female official system was a traditional imperial system in ancient China. It was designed to serve the royal family and help maintain the function of emperors. It also represented the emperor's desire to have a harmonious and orderly harem. The Ming dynasty attached much importance to the establishment of the female official system not long after its foundation. After improvement and perfection were made three times during the reign of Hongwu, the female official system became a fixed institution in the Ming dynasty. In the following years, the system underwent ups and downs and was reformed with the changes of imperial authority and political situation.
