传世的出戟尊、花盆、盆托(洗)等一类陈设用钧窑器物，虽然不见于宋元文献，但是自十六世纪起被大多数人认为是“北宋钧窑”。二十世纪七十年代在钧台窑的考古发掘证实了它们的产地和时代。九十年代起，一批学者对“北宋钧窑”的年代产生了怀疑，其主要理由是钧台窑与“北宋钧窑”同出的其他标本明显具金元时代特点，窑址附近发现的“宣和元宝”钱范形制不规范故不足以作为判断窑址时代的根据，文献中对它的时代认定缺乏依据。因此对“北宋钧窑”时代的讨论始终没有得出一个令人信服的结论。

The handed-down pieces, including zun vases with flanges, flower pots and pot stands, have been considered Jun Ware of Northern Song Dynasty since the 16th century, although no written proof was found in the Song and Yuan documents. The excavation of Juntai Kiln site in the 1970s seemed verifying their production area and period. However, since 1990s a few scholars have raised questions on the dates of these Northern Song Jun ware. The main reason is that pieces from both the Juntai Kiln excavation and the so-called Northern Song Jun wares carry similar typical characteristics of Jin and Yuan dynasties. The excavation of coin mold Xuan He Yuan Bao is insufficient to determine their dates, because the mold's form was not typical during that period. Therefore, no confirmed conclusion has been made on the origin of Northern Song Jun Ware.
