cymbal bowl

The curvature of the cymbal bowl’s edge contour changed little during the early Northern Song Period. By the middle of the Song Dynasty, i. e. from the late Northern Song Period to the early Southern Song Period, due to the advancement of porcelain firing process and the recipe for semi-finished product, the curvature increase became greater gradually, but during Song Gaozong Period the curvature decreased to the standard of Northern Song Dynasty. By the Yuan Dynasty, owing to the further development of porcelain firing technology and the consumers’ pressing requirement for the usefulness of the cymbal bowls, the curvature began to increase again. Therefore, the involvement of cymbal bowls’curvature can be described as follows: protruding from the middle of the bowl in Northern Song Dynasty, more beautiful but less dignified in Southern Song Dynasty, vigorous and graceful in Yuan Dynasty.
