According to historical records, Huangwei was a type of wrought silk to cover coffins and mainly used by senior nobility in Zhou Dynasty (B.C.1046-B.C.221). As organic material, it was hard to preserve Huangwei underground, so tangible evidence from archaeological excavation was lacking all the way. Until 2004, when the Graveyard of Peng Nation in Western Zhou Dynasty (B.C.1046-B.C.771) was excavated, the mark of Huangwei hardening on the soil was discovered, which provided a good chance to understand the ancient Huangwei. Through systemic test and analysis of the mark of Huangwei and the soil sample, archeologists found that the textile was plain weave whose warp and weft density was about 38×24 thread per cm2. The red pigment was cinnabar while the yellow one was yellow ochre.
