Yarkand County is located in Kashi Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which has a long history of nearly 3, 000 years though it looks inconspicuous on the map. It had been a prestigious tribal state as early as the Western Zhou Period and by the time of Western Han dynasty it became one city state of the thirty-six western countries - Yarkand. With Zhangqian's and Banchao's official visits to the western regions successively and the opening up of the ancient Silk Road, Yarkand had been once a key position in the south route of the Silk Road. During different periods, Yarkand was also called Qusha State and Yerqiang hanguo chronologically. It's worth mentioning that during the over 160 years'reign of Yerqiang hanguo, Yarkand became the center of politics, economy, culture and business of Xinjiang or even the Central Asia.
