The Shandong-Henan-Anhui cultural region was a relatively isolated area in prehistoric times. Geologically, it was the “second lake and swamp zone” on the ancient alluvial fan of Yellow River, which exerted crucial effects upon the distribution of prehistoric settlements as well as the formation of their culture and economic type. From the early and middle Neolithic Age to the Yueshi Culture period, the distribution of settlement featured that the concentrated area was gradually transferred from the south to the north, and each period seemed to have undergone a series of changing courses in distribution of areas suitable for settlement and those supplying living resources.
