东晋建康兽面瓦当来源于西晋，其源头当在中原洛阳地区新莽时期的壁画兽面。汉晋建筑构件中的兽面使用经历了从地下墓葬到地面建筑的过程，这一过程与汉晋墓葬制度的区域变化有关，其根源在于早期道教的发展。考古发现的两晋时期建筑构件中的兽面，主要使用在彩绘砖画、瓦当、墓砖、壁画以及石龛（椁）等上面，发现地点有甘肃、北京、江苏等省市。

英语语境:

The animal mask eaves tile of Jiankang in the Eastern Jin Dynasty came from the Western Jin Dynasty, which must have originated from the mural animal mask of the central plain (Luoyang) in Xin Dynasty. The application of animal mask in building components of Han and Jin Dynasties had underwent a development process from underground tomb to buildings on the ground, which was closely related to the regional changes of Han and Jin's burial system that can trace its source back to the early stage of Taoism. The archaeological excavation of the animal masks in Jin Dynasty were mainly applied in coloured paintings on bricks, eaves tile, tomb brick, wall painting, and stone niche (stone outer coffin). The excavation locations included Gansu Province, Beijing, and Jiangsu Province, etc.
