“素三彩”是指景德镇烧制的一种低温彩釉瓷器。主要特征是器表纹饰不施红彩，显得素静幽雅。我国传统习惯，将非红色称为素色，所以“素三彩“之名是根据我国传统习惯而定名的，也是古陶瓷专业上的用语。一般素三彩瓷器以黄、绿、紫三色多见，有的加施白色、黑色、孔雀蓝色、金色等。素三彩不一定施三种色彩，在一种器物上凡没有红彩装饰的多色彩瓷都可称素三彩。从传世品看，明代成化、正德、嘉靖、万历几朝皆有出品，清代康熙素三彩最著名。

“Plain Tricolor” refers to a kind of low temperature fired colored glaze porcelain wares produced in Jingdezhen, featured by its gentle and elegant looking with no reddish color on the surface decoration of porcelain wares. The name of “Plain Tricolor”came after the Chinese tradition which tended to call non-reddish color as plain color. It was also a term frequently used in the field of ancient ceramics. Plain tricolor porcelain wares were generally painted yellow, green, and purple, but sometimes white, black, peacock blue and golden. Any multicolored porcelain wares without reddish decoration on their surface can be called as plain tricolor, not just with three colors. From those that have been handed down from ancient times, it is clearly seen that plain tricolor porcelain wares were produced during the regnal year of Chenghua, Zhengde, Jiajing and Wanli in Ming Dynasty, but those produced during the regnal year of Kangxi were more famous.
