2007年山西省考古研究所对吉县挂甲山摩崖造像进行了调查，发现的造像分布密集，范围不大，保存较好。雕凿手法上看有高浮雕、浅浮雕和线雕。这些龛窟共分为五组：第一组有3个龛和一个题记，第二组有3个龛和4个题记，第三组有1个龛和3个题记，第四组有2个龛和2个题记，第五组有2个龛和2个题记。根据现存造像的特点等推断，其年代为北齐至宋金时期。

In 2007, Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology conducted a survey to the Cliffside Carvings at Guajiashan Hill in Jixian County. The survey found that the carvings are densely distributed in a relatively small area and rather well preserved. In terms of carving methods, there are high relief, bas-relief and linear relief respectively. Furthermore, the shrine-caves could be divided into five groups: Group I has three niches and one graffito; Group II, three niches and four graffiti; Group III, one niche and two graffiti; Group IV, two niches and two graffiti; and Group V, two niches and two graffiti. Inferred from the features of the extant images, the date of the Cliffside Carvings at Guajiashan Hill is between the Northern Qi period and the Song and Jin Dynasties.
