As one kind of drinking vessel, Xi Zun was fairly popular in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties. In 1982, archaeologists excavated one Warring States Period Xi Zun in the southern suburbs of Linzi (the former site of Qi State), Zibo, Shandong Province. This piece of Xi Zun is in the shape of a sturdy ox and its appearances are as follows: its head perks, ears are upright, eyes stare around, and its heels flings up. Moreover, the lid on the back of the Xi Zun resembles the leaf-shape of Chinese flowering crabapple. Briefly, the Xi Zun's appealing design, exquisite crafts, and vivid modeling enable it to be one of the treasures of ancient Chinese culture and art.
