青铜卣是商周时期主要的盛酒器之一，在青铜礼器中占有十分重要的地位。青铜卣商代时期主要流行于现今的安阳、郑州地区；西周早期多见于现今的西安和宝鸡地区，中期以后，随着其他酒器的消亡而急剧衰落，之后被青铜壶代替；穆恭以后到春秋时期，青铜卣多以仿铸品出现于湖南、安徽以及广西地区。从保存完好的墓葬中来看，青铜卣先后和罍、壶、觚爵斝一起出现在中小型墓葬中，从殷墟晚期开始和尊经常出现在大中型墓葬中。

Bronze You is one of the main wine containers in Shang and Zhou dynasties, and plays an important role in bronze ritual vessels. In Shang Dynasty, bronze You was prevalent in Zhengzhou and Anyang city of Henan province; in early Western Zhou Dynasty, it was prevalent in Baoji and Xi'an city of Shaanxi province, and since the middle Western Zhou Dynasty, bronze You had declined rapidly with the extinction of other drinking vessels, and finally was replaced by bronze kettle; from Mu-gong period to Spring and Autumn period, bronze You appeared in Hunan, Anhui, Guangxi mostly in the form of imitation. Judging from the well-preserved tombs, bronze You at first appeared in small and medium-sized tombs with other funeral objects successively, such as Lei, Hu, Gu, Jue, Jia, etc; then it began to appear in the large and middle tombs along with bronze Zun from the late period of Yinxu ruins.
