Dry ice loaded in an industrial washing machine was used to clean a late Qing dynasty porcelain with a thick glaze layer of fine enamel. The results of the evaluation on this technique showed that dry ice can quickly remove epoxy resin on the porcelain surface without damaging the glaze layer. The whole cleaning process was environmentally friendly, with only traces of stains left. The result of this experiment is very important for developing sustainable methods for the conservation of relics.
