洪武青花瓷器的传世品不多，目前尚未发现真正带有洪武官款的器物。从南京和江西等地区出土的大量民窑实物标本来看，洪武朝的青花瓷制作都带有元代遗风。器型以墩式碗或折腰盘、折腰碗为多，大都沿袭元未旧制；青花色泽偏灰，胎体厚重；图案装饰线条粗疏豪放，改变了元代层次多，花纹满的风格，趋向多留白；扁菊花纹使用较多，葫芦叶的绘画却不如元代规矩。

So far, few blue and white porcelain wares in the Hongwu period have been handed down throughout the history, and meanwhile, archaeologists haven't found any evidence of real porcelain with Hongwu official seal. Judging from the large number of civilian kiln wares excavated from Nanjing, Jiangxi, and other areas, blue and white porcelain wares in the Hongwu period share several similarities with those produced in Yuan dynasty. In terms of the shape, mound bowls (also called belly-bent plates) and waisted bowls account for the great proportion, most of which follow the porcelain crafts in late Yuan dynasty. The color of the blue and white porcelain is greyer; the porcelain body is massive and grave; the lines of the pictorial decorations have a style of barbaric simplicity and more white space, which has changed Yuan's style of multi-level hierarchical representation for full-stacked patterns. Besides, flat chrysanthemum patterns become popular in Ming dynasty while the paintings of gourd leaf are not as normal as their counterparts in Yuan dynasty.
