Small and medium banks have boomed after the opening and reform of financial market in China, and meanwhile they have gradually stepped into the developmental dilemma of risk expansion and performance decline. Based on Stackelberg dynamic game model, researchers develop a model of risk-based oligopoly market competition and apply it to the analysis of the developmental dilemma of small and medium banks. The research findings show that the risk-based competition among small and medium banks in the oligopoly market with price of funds (deposit and loan interest rate) limited will cause the increase of risks in banking system and the continuous expansion of asset size.
