The empirical study discover: the TFFE of China is generally at a low level and shows no improvement during the sample period, implying that and the actual input of chemical fertilizer can be reduced without changing output and other inputs. From the regional perspective, the TFFE is much higher in the east than in the midwest, suggesting that the agriculture of East China is situated in the transitive process from extensive development to intensive development, while the midwest region of China remain in the stage of the extensive development.
