北洋集团是清末民初中国社会转型急剧加快时期形成的政治军事集团，其本身是新旧矛盾的结合体，是一种亦新亦旧的政治力量，这个集团在清末新政中崛起，为中国社会的发展进步做出了一定的贡献，但北洋集团又是一个狭隘的利己集团，本身具有不可克服的新与旧的矛盾性，其在清末改革中的奋发努力，大都与其争夺权力紧密联系在一起，而不是为了民族的独立和富强。辛亥革命以后，随着北洋集团掌握了国家中央政权，其狭隘自私的一面恶性发展，最终成为中国社会发展的障碍。

英语语境:

Beiyang Group is a political and military group, which forms during the period of the rapid social changes of China between the Late Qing and the early Republic of China.It is a combination of both new and old contradictions by itself, and it is both new and old political force. It grows up in the New Deal of the Late Qing and provides some contributions for the progress of Chiese society. However, it is also a narrow selfish group, possessing unovercomed both new and old contradiction. Its efforts in the Late Qing reform mostly tightly touch with contesting power, but not for national independence and wealth. After Xinhai Revolution, along with Beiyang Group mastering country center regime, its narrow selfish side badly develops, finally, it becomes an obstacle of Chiese society development.
