Gultung's view of making peace by peaceful means was well-accepted by European and American psychologists. Drawing on the humanistic peace theory and the Chinese traditional peace philosophy, he developed thoughts on violence nature, peace nature and peace diagnosis. Because he enriched the connotation of violence in violence theory, his peaceful psychology theory surpassed the binary opposition between war and peace to integrate human value, individual happiness and human dignity into peace, thus avoiding the Utopian thinking of peace while revealing the practical way to make peace.
