Whether an engineer's behavior to report the offense to the authorities on flawed objects is legal and reasonable is a key part to engineering ethics and also a hot issue that is concerned with the sci-tech personnel. Such a behavior is regarded as the necessary means an engineer has to adopt so as to protect public interests when he is facing a contradiction between the interests of an organization that employed him and public interests.
