Under the positive introduction by Li Hongzhang, the Qing government purchased a large quantity of arms including artillery, warship, guns, ammunition and so on from Germany. At the same time, Li trained a group of militarists for China by inviting German experts to teach in China and sending students to study military in Germany, who were the first oversea students from China. As a result, the modernization of Chinese army was promoted.
