Based on the 5th population census, we systematically analyse the population development situation in Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan. The pressure on resource, environment and economy has been quantitatively measured. The research results demonstrate clearly that large population base and ageing population and high proportion of labor force, large urban poor people, low urbanization level and the high ecological and economic pressure are the important factors which restrict the sustainable development in Changsha, Zhuzhou .
