Based on a meticulous scrutiny of the historical documents unearthed in Turban, we challenge the conventional notion that, as recorded in the Official History of Gaochang, the ancient kingdom was non-Chinese in language, speech, religion and manners, and suggests that the cultural uniformity, as evidenced in the unearthed documents, between Gaochang and the inner Chinese territories shows that Gaochang was part of China, with full Chinese characteristics, from the very outset.
