Arranged marriage is a type of marital union where the bride and groom are selected by a third party rather than by each other. It is strongly breach the free will of marriage and is therefore highly forbidden by Chinese Constitution and Marriage Law. It was common worldwide until the 18th century. In more recent times, arranged marriage is common in South Asia, Africa, the Mid East, Latin America, Southeast Asia and parts of East Asia. The phenomena is also commonly seen among the nobiliies and the royal families in some developed countries such as Japan.
