朝鲜王朝(1392-1910)定期派遣使节出使明、清王朝，而明、清两朝亦常常派使臣出使朝鲜，双方使节往来相当频繁。朝鲜使节回归之时都要向国王禀告出使情况，每次出使都有书状官专门负责记录出使时的见闻，作为回国时禀告国王的依据。

Chosun Dynasty (1392-1910) sent special envoys to Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty on a regular basis, and vice versa. Exchanges between Chosun and Ming, Chosun and Qing were frequent. When a Chosun envoy returnd, he had to report to the King about the mission. And in every mission, an officer in charge of recording would write down what the envoy saw and heard, as evidence to report to the King.
