追诉时效制度中的时效停止一般分为时效中止、时效中断和时效终止，而我国现行刑法只规定了时效中断和时效终止的情形，对于时效中止丝毫没有提及。追诉时效中断是为了防止犯罪人利用追诉时效制度规避法律、逃避责任，同时避免其继续犯罪，以及尽可能减少追诉时效制度所可能带来的负面效应而存在的。
英语语境:
The stopping system in the statute of limitations is generally divided into suspension, interruption and termination. The interruption and termination system of limitation of prosecution are stated in Chinese Criminal Law while the suspension (of limitation) is not mentioned. The aim of the interruption system is to prevent the criminal from using the system of limitation of prosecution to evade legal responsibility, to avoid the criminal's continuing crime, and to minimize the possible adverse effect of the statute of limitations.
